From the president: Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help with the union…but we still need YOU!

February 11th, 2016 by ISU NTT-FA
Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help with the union. Everyone is very busy, but we can be a lot more effective if everyone could do something small.

Everyone is very busy, but we can be a lot more effective if everyone could do something small.

To help us be more effective we need some volunteers to help with membership, communications, grievances and bargaining. Please let me know (kmccart@ilstu.edu) if you can help out even in a small way in any of these areas.

Meeting with President Dietz

November 30th, 2015 by ISU NTT-FA

On Thursday, October 29, Katherine McCarthy and Joseph Cleary met with President Dietz and Provost Krejci on behalf of the ISUNTTFA to discuss ongoing relations between the union and ISU.  We emphasized the need to have clear and regular communication so that we may, in turn, effectively communicate with our members/  We discussed the current budget implications and set a follow up meeting.

President Dietz confirmed that the Board of Trustees has approved an operating budget including a projected cut in the state appropriation.  (For reference:  https://news.illinoisstate.edu/2015/10/actions-from-the-board-of-trustees-meeting/?utm_source=Relay&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=report-oct27-2015)  He emphasized that the State still does not have a budget, so the extent of any cut may not be known until March, but he hoped that it would be resolved in January.  He further stated that operations would continue at ISU as planned until a state budget is finalized, at which time ISU would review and update them.  Both the President and the Provost restated ISU’s commitment to protecting instruction and the desire for a stable NTT faculty workforce.  They said they valued NTT faculty for the university.

Katherine and Joe emphasized the need for clear and regular communication with the Administration, specifically on how the budget issue would affect our association members.  President Dietz and Provost Krejci emphasized that no reduction in force has been authorized or directed to any Deans, Chairs, and Directors.  All parties understood that departments continue to face fluctuations in instructional capacity based on fluctuations in enrollment and wherever this fluctuation causes the need to reduce instructional force, the RIF language in the contract will be followed explicitly (reductions must be made by seniority, with the most junior NTT faculty being reduced first.)  Provost Krejci reassured us that she would continue to communicate and remind the Deans and Chairs of this procedure.  President Dietz further emphasized his belief that integrity of all parties at Illinois State University in upholding agreements is a key factor to the success of the University in delivering its mission.

Learn Your Contract!

July 25th, 2014 by ISU NTT-FA

The number one reason for the existence of this union is to provide protection to its members through a negotiated contract. Unfortunately, contracts don’t enforce themselves, so it’s important that we all take the time to familiarize ourselves with the contract language. The contract is posted on the Forms and Documents page of this website.
